Default My photo used without permission

I was alerted (I believe by the author of this book since the names are the same) that one of my photos is possibly being used without my permission. The Times Square photo at the bottom of this page:

http://nationlife.net/lux-hd-450-hi-...loc=&dv=&ads=1

is the same photo labeled "#4) Times Square looking south" that I posted here in 2012:

http://forums.steves-digicams.com/hd...e-hdr-nyc.html

Here is how the web page looks like as of this writing:

I am following the guidelines here to send a "cease and desist" request.

Thank you, Billy. I'll keep this thread updated. (Billy is my nickname, too.)

According to the person who alerted me, the company "has a reputation for ... using photos and changing the name of the photographer."

That's just terrible. Here's hoping you get it all sorted out Billy.

Cheers,

Jim Doty, Jr., the person who alerted me, posted the company on his blog:

http://www.blog.jimdoty.com/?p=11617

I sent the ISP a cease-and-desist request.

Good luck, hopefully they will take it down.

Years ago we had some websites stealing our review content. They were simply copy-n-pasting our entire reviews as their own. After some cease-and-desist letters with talks about litigation, the stolen content was quickly removed.

You know what they say. Stealing ones work is the sincerest form of flattery. Wait a minute, maybe I have that confused with another idiom...

Hi, Billy. Thank you.

Wow -- so blatant to just copy-and-paste. I think that's even more irksome to say the least.

Yes, I was showing a fellow photographer-enthusiast friend my stolen image and -- I'm sure it's not just my imagination, I was a little annoyed at his reaction -- he didn't seem supportive but instead sounded, um, jealous. I know you're kidding but stealing can indeed be seen by some as the sincerest form of flattery. For me, there's a sick feeling in my stomach that my image is somehow involved in a dishonest operation.

I've had a photo stolen from one of my posts here as well. Mine appeared on an Eastern European website, so I don't see much chance of getting it taken down. I've asked them twice and gotten no reply.

It was a photo of my wife's friend riding her horse, and it's being used as an example of bad riding.

G'day vvc

Go get the bastards !!!
I agree with the others ^ ... there is no place for thievery of images - it is so easy to PM / email to ask permission &/or buy a 1-off licence, but to claim the image as 'your own work' is not acceptable

I have had the same feeling my friend. It's sickening that people have such a lack in morals that they feel they can just take the property of someone else without asking for permission, and with no sign of remorse.

Sometimes making a joke of things can help one cope, which I know is true for me sometimes. If I can laugh at something, it helps it not sting as much.

Again, good luck sir!
