Default NY Times on compact 4MP digital cameras

The NY Times has a roundup on 4MP cameras today. Why do I care, you ask? Admittedly, the writer is no Steve, but of course the sad truth is that lots more people will see this article. The writer's needs are also more like the typical user than the photo-buff, so it might give you ideas when your friends ask about cameras.

The writer focuses mostly on compact models with some manual features. His favorites are:

1 - Canon S40
2 - Nikon Coolpix 4500 - a little big for a pocket, but 4x zoom
- Olympus D-40 Zoom - miniturization and control
- Sony DSC-P9 - tiny, but limited manual controls
- Kodak EasyShare DX4900 - easy to use
- Minolta Dimage S404

He has some problems understanding that you can get extra batteries and memory cards ... but, interesting anyway. You can read it at Darwin Meets the Digital Camera, though you have to register (free).
