Default Disconnecting Coolpix 995 from computer

The literature says to always select the eject or unplug icon on the task bar. Where is this? I have just been closing the transfer window when the transfer is complete. Am I damaging my camera? I got a weird sound like gears were stuck when I used the toggle switch for the zoom yesterday. Thanks for your patience. Liz

Gear grinding sounds more like mechanicle issue. Is cam still under warrenty? If cam was off when disconnected from computer then 100% caused by something else, if was on still would be guess that did not have to do with disconnect.
