I had noticed the numbers of topics for each of the brand catagories for the DSLR section and graphed it. Interesting....

Suspicions confirmed... looks like a pretty close correlation with market share. Remember that Canon makes a wide variety of DSLR models, ranging from about $800 to $8000. They have the market pretty well covered. Nikon makes some great DSLRs, but have a lot of catching up to do when it comes to sales. Remember that Canon introduced the very popular EOS 20D in September and Nikon hasn't followed suit (yet). Canon made the Christmas market and Nikon hasn't gotten the competitor to market yet.

I'll bet you'll find a similar situation on other sites that cover multiple brands of cameras.

Actually, depending on the person who runs the site you often find that the site become a haven for either Nikon or Canon users. Since Steve shows no loyality either way, I think this site reflects more of what it is really like in the market.

The market share correlation does not hold for the non SLR cameras: I am fairly sure Panosonic does not have the largest market share. It does look like the Panosonic folks here do like to post here.

Thanks very much for the effort. As the "challengers" introduce new models, it might be interesting as to how the percentages of market, shift.

I wonder what overall number of units sold is ??
