Default PC direct mode, usb or RS-232c help

I just purchaced a Samsung 210se digital
it has a direct PC download mode
using either a USB port or Rs-232c
The USB port works great but which port
is a RS-232c considered a serial or parallel
does it go to a com1 or lpt1 port, the cable
supplied has a 9 pin female, which on my computer at home is hooked up for a com1
and when trying to dump the pictures
it can't find the Camera, and yes I have loaded the drivers, so I'm thinking I need to try to hook it to the same port as my
scanner is on which is a lpt1 parallel
a 25 pin. This means I would have to buy an adapter from a 9 pin to a 25 pin, does this sound right ? Why not just use the USB you ask? well that's on the computer
at work, my older one for home only has
the RS232, so any help would be appreciated, Thanks Borsy
P.s. great web-page most helpful !!!

Some cams have to be hooked up and turned on prior to starting computer to be reconized. Also if you are running win98 or newer you can get a USB add on card for under $20, mindless install, just turn off computer, plug in card and power up. Lasted version of USB is 2.0, but eeven the 1.1 fly compared to the9 pin download. Not many things on this earth slower than the 9 pin download.
