Default Canon FS4000 film scanner

Hi all, could anyone spread some light on a scanner software problem.
When my customer scans on his Canon FS4000 film scanner with the dust removal system working, he gets a crosshatching effect in certain areas. This doesn't occur when the software is off. He usually uses Fuji neg film.
Canon although get back to him and have tried to help, don't seem to have the answer.
Any help would be gratefully received.

Crosshatching is a typical problem for scanning negatives...you could try rotating the negative, flipping it (and then flipping it back in software), or don't use that dust feature.
