You have to remember that the X zoom is a ratio between the widest angle and the closest telephoto...it doesn't tell the whole story from standard eye focal length of 50mm. One camera may have a wider wide angle and therefore less zoom, and other the opposite.

If you want to compare cameras you have to look at the 35mm equivalent focal lengths given.

Of course the best way to compare is similar pictures with the same settings.
