Default Camera Selection

I am looking for a digital camera that I can use to take pictures of my son in the show ring (showing his lambs) or on the football field. The pictures usually come out but I always wonder which one he is. I need to know what zoom size will work the best for me. I am an amature (and can not spell it either) I want a camera that is stable and has a long battery life. Thanks so much for you comments. How big do you want to print out the pictures? If you want 5x7s with the very ocassional 8x10, i'd go with a refurb oly c2100 since it has a 10x stabilized zoom, or the new panasonic with the stabilized zoom (forgot the model number).

I own th eFuji 3800 and i think it would be IDEAL for you. it's a tad boxy and poor in low light but for what you need I think it's so perfect it's not funny.

The model of the Panasonic is the DMC-FZ1. Longer zooms, especially in low light situations, require the use of a tripod, but the Panasonic is internal mechanical stabilization which means the camera wouldn't suffer so badly from camera shake. The Panasonic has 12x zoom, and can be bought for around $500US or cheaper (that's cheaper than some 10X Olympus cameras, but the Panasonic doesn't have all the manual adjustments).
