I have an HP Photosmart M525 that is only 9 months old. The lens has suddenly decided not to retract, and when I turn on the camera all I can do is read the error message M525-12 and then it shuts off. I have tried everything listed on the HP help pages to try and fix it (new batteries, blow out the dust, memory card, etc) with no success. Their "live chat" was no help either. I read on one website that updating the firmware can often solve some problems, but when I looked at the instructions as to how to update for my camera, it seems that I will need to be able to access the menus on the camera, which it won't let me do with the lens stuck. I can't even look and see what version of firmware I currently have on the camera.

Is there any way to update the firmware with the camera acting the way it is? And will it do any good?! This really bites, as the camera is less than a year old, and was not dropped or knocked around. The nearest repair center is about 90 miles from me, and I have a feeling that it will cost so much to fix it that I might be better off buying a new camera. Thanks for any help.
