Hi. A good friend has the HP 812 with the problem of the lens not moving. In fact, they can't even get the camera completely opened to use. It gives off a buzz and clicking noise, then just stops.

He called HP and they said for $30.00 they would walk him through a fix. He has to pay even if the fix doesn't work.

Does anyone know what this fix is? At this point, I think HP has probably lost a customer for life, but if I can find out how to get the camera going, it will definitely be a win situation for all.

Oh, and are there any other digital camera discussion forums on the net? I like this one, but it's good to know all the sources of info.

When I first got my 850, I had trouble getting it to focus, too. I started shooting in Macro mode whenever possible because the camera will not take a picture in Macro mode unless it has focused on something. Without macro mode, you can take a picture even if the center reticle is still red.

Sometimes you have to trick the camera a little bit as you half-depress the shutter in order to get it to focus at the right distance.
