Hi, My Dad just gave me his HP-812 digital camera. Its my first so its OK@! Now yesterday, I turned it on and recieved an error message: UNABLE TO FOCUS. The shutter doesnt seem to open so that would make sence as to why it claims it cannot focus.

Now, I'm wondering, because I'm sure I'm not the only one this happenend to, what I can do to resolve this.

HP said its a flat rate of 200$CAN, they will fix it because its 1 month past guarantee, why is it always like that?! Any insights as to what I can do would be great, I'm somewhat of a-do-it-yourselfer when it comes to opening things and looking at how they work, so if something can be done from there I would much prefer then paying the 200$.

lol, seriously thogh, cant I simply remove the shutter if that is cause..

thanks for your help

First you'll not get this message by just turning camera on you have to press shutter button half way. I have this message once in the while but it's beause it can't focuse. Eather the spot is to dark or object is too close. Also sometimes zooming in and zooming out will totally screup the view. Turn it off and then on.

P.S. 200$ I paid 150$ for mine all together.
