Default photosmart 812 uploading

Howdy. Is there a way to upload pics from the 812 directly to a hard disc, like a zip drive? Is this a hacker issue? How do it know if it's sending to a printer, computer, tv, or what? Was it a dirty trick by HP to exclude outboard hard drives from its uploading scheme?

This is an important question because we're going on a cruise and would rather not be forced to buy their expensive little SD memory cards...... Thanks for listening.

In the setup of the camera you can choose to select is as a DISKDRIVE instead of camera.
On Windows XP you can than easily use it as a diskdrive.

Other GOOD idea is to by a XsDrive, you can directly copy the content of anycard onto the internal HDD, it's very very handy to have on longer shoots or holidays.

Greetings from Holland,
