I'm still waiting for Photomatix to send me the key to the Essentials version, but in the meantime I've been experimenting both with versions of Linux that will run it - and with other HDR programs.

The Linux version that has worked best (so far) is Lubuntu 14.01, after installing both Wine and Play on Linux. There was some difficulty in finding how to access Play on Linux - until I found that Lubuntu lists it under "Games".

As for other HDR applications, I've tried EasyHDR and I think it's quite good. I've also tried out Luminance & so far find it completely baffling. However, in the course of being baffled, I ended up (quite unintentionally) with this strange version of the picture in my earlier posting (on Dec. 7) of our view towards the Olympic Mountains. I'm inclined to call it "Summer in Victoria B.C. - after Climate Change" -
