Nice second look at what I postedhere.

Finding a retail seller of this camera would be a real find. Silicon Valley Perphials only sells thru distributors. Most SVP stuff is soldon online auction sites,

They just love interpolation don't they. I don't mind it being an option, but listing it prominently as part of the feature set is designed to catch those who don't know any better. 12 Megapixels from 5 is obviously for devious marketing purposes like the 700x Zoom (optical combined with Digital) that you get on camcorders. The 700x is practically useless for realworld use.

Having said that, they do look like they have some interesting models although they only list two distributors, neither of which seem to have a website yet.

One thing I noticed is that they use the XVID MPEG4 codec rather than the Microsoft .asf format which is nice.

They have at least this model for sale on Amazon.com:

Is it me, or do some of them look strikingly similar to the Aipteks? I wonder if they use the same chipset and come from a common design house?

Yeah, I wish that these hybrid manufactures would get off the interpolation and digital zoom thing and move on like everyone else. In Japan you can't even advertise interpolated image sizes; against the law. Seeing a camera with "interpolation" and "1000x digital zoom" right up front just seems like a slap in the face to me; like you say they are obviously just trying to take advantage of people that don't know any better and it makes me wonder what other features they are cheating on. Nothing screams "buyer beware" like interpolation in the specs. It has been argued over and over, there is absolutely no advantage whatsoever to interpolation and digital zoom. Interpolation just makes your pictures larger with no more details, forcing the camera to use way too much JPEG compression to reduce the size, which actually ends up reducing the image quality, and digital zoom is just cropping; you can do it yourself later if you want. IMHO and everything ha.
