...according to Aiptek, that is.

Private Idaho

Aiptek International, a Taiwan-based maker of DV camcorders under its Aiptek brand, recently stated that it has become the fifth largest brand of DV camcorders in the US market.

According to market surveys by US-based NPD Group, Aiptek was the sixth largest DV camcorder brand in the US during January-October 2007, Aiptek indicated. However, Aiptek witnessed booming sales in November and December, and thus estimates it is currently the fifth largest brand, according to the company. Aiptek is the only DV camcorder brand from Taiwan that ranks along with Japanese and South Korean brands in retail chains in the US, the company claimed.

Aiptek showcased its new DV camcorder, the PocketDV AHD Z500 Pro at the 2008 Consumer Electronics Show in early January, and will sell it in the US for only US$299, according to the company.

I guess it depends on how you define a "DV Camcorder"

If it is defined as a camcorder that records to flash-memory only and is actually marketed with the term "camcorder" instead of "digital camera, that also takes movie clips" then I'd believe it..
