I would like to transfer my 8mm tapes to DVD at home. Is there a home system out there?

If you mean Video 8,a DVD recorder that has AV inputs should accept the output from your camera , often from 3 phono sockets, (audio left & right, video) , just as if you were showing the tapes on yourTV.

Hey, Mom, if you don't have a DVD recorder but do have a digital camcorder, I've heard that you can hook up the analog camcorder to the digital camcorder and get a very high quality digital conversion that you can then use to burn a DVD with a PC DVD burner. If the digital camcorder writes directly to DVD, then so much the better.

If you don't have a digital camcorder, then you can get one of the numerous stand-alone conversion units made for just this purpose. Compare the units on the web and pick the one that best meets your needs.
