I am a Newbie. Looking for flatbed scanner that will give me good resolution on my slides & negs.? Looked @ canoscan 9950, Epson 4180 & 4870, microtek i700 & 900? I am going to buy either a canon iP8500 or Epson R800. Want to spend Under $400.if possible... THANKS

The Canon ip8500 and the epson r800 are printers, not scanners. I am extremely happy with my Epson 4870 after scanning several hundred prints, slides and negatives. You can buy the 4870 through newegg.com for $350, plus shipping.

I KNOW they are printers! I just wanted to let it be known that I am going to purchase 1 of these 2 printers; in case it makes a difference pairing it up to a scanner[javascript:emoticon('', 'images/emoticons/doh.gif')
