I have been scanning my negatives & slides with a Coolscan IV for 6 months and just ran into a problem with B&W. When I insert a negative strip, the scanner reverts to Neg-Color for film type even though I had set it to Neg-Mono before starting the scan. I can change it back while the auto-focus is happening, but the resulting scan is posterized and unuseable.

I scanned some B&W when I first got the scanner with good results...can anyone think of a setting that has gotten hosed up?

Thanks for any clues.

Andy

Do you have Digital ICE turned on? With real B&W films it must be off.

I did turn off ICE, but when I insert a strip of negatives, it comes back on during the autofocus cycle (along with film type reverting to color negative). I've checked all the preferences and can't see why this is happening. If I'm quick, I can change film type back to mono before the autofocus is done, but I'm not sure if it takes effect.

Any other thoughts?
