Default question about the minolta dimage dual scan III

I would greatly appreciate the advice as i'm considering getting the dual scan III.

The photo scanner scans negatives. Does it automatically give color to the negatives after you scan to (give color to the scans in the computer). Or are the color slides (which of course have color already) the only item with color, the only thing which comes out with color.

thank you for your help

The Scan Dual III will not add color to B&W negatives. However, color negatives DO contain color information. It is just reversed. The TWAIN interface for the scanner has a dropdown box at the top to select the type of film you are scanning. If it is color negatives, it reverses the colors to give you a positive image. It also recognizes the fact that the negative carrier can hold six frames.

If the film is color slides, no color reversal is required. It recognized that the slide carrier only holds 4 slides.

There are also selections for monochrome (B&W) negatives and slides.
