Default Out of Focus Old Slides

I've just started scanning my in-laws. It looks like some of the ones from such as their wedding, etc are actually out of focus - on the original kodachrome slide! not because of the scan. I've tried to play with it a bit in photoshop using sharpen filters with pretty poor results. Is anyone aware of any better way to try to recover a somewhat sharper image?

Thanks for any help.

If the originals are out of focus there is nothing that can be done except what you have tried by sharpening the edges within the image. This has limitations because at some point the edges will bloom and the sharpening will look very artifical.
