I have 1200-1500 old 35mm slides from the 50s-60s that I would like to scan. I had pretty much decided on a Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II. Unfortunately, they seem to be out of stock most everywhere (Amazon, BestBuy, Staples, Abes of Maine, etc). Customer service at Staples said that they were not getting any more in, which usually means that they are being replaced by a newer model. Does anyone know if that is true, and if so what (and when) Minolta is replacing it with? In the mean time, any suggestions on something else in this price range ($500-$600)? The only thing I really demand is ICE technology. From what I've read, it will make a huge difference with old slides. Thanks for the input.

HI,

I recently had the same problem when trying to get hold of a Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II. I was so desperate I called Konica Minolta UK Head Office to be told that they have gone bust and getting one would be impossible.

My solution was to buy a Nikon Super Coolscan 5000 ED and it's great, I can't recommend it enough. It does cost more that the Konica Minolta (but it is still available), the software is easy to use and the speed in which it performs scans is great. Apparently the Konica Minolta software is difficult to use and slow, so I have heard.

I've talked to KM USA and was told that they were just out of stock and more were on the way. Smokescreen or truth-not sure. It seems that KM has sold their digital camera business to Sony. Does anyone know if that would include the scanner business also?
