I'm using a new Nikon Coolscan V ED with associated Nikon Scan software to scan several hundred aircraft slides of all types dating back to 1957 (for archival purposes). Some scans produce a good background but the subject, an aircraft in flight appearing small against the background, is often washed out, even though it appears to have colour on the slide. These are of course grab shots from the air, and are not great quality to begin with.

Any advice from more experienced people on how to correct this during the scan? Photoshop Elements 4 can't correct the image.
