Default Blocking out Third Party Suppliers

 I was in oncomputers sunday chat and they said there is a move by printer companys to make their printers only use Inks carts made by them in there printers. Some new chip or somthing that prevents third party ink carts from working in their printers or refilling the carts and i think they might be taking this to paper as well. I'm talking beyond the chip Epson puts in the carts to monitor ink levels. Has steve wrote anyting on this new move and what do you think of it?
