Is it possible to make an external waste tank for the canon printer IP4500. I'm just waiting for it to arrive. Also planning to get ciss for it later are these easy to fit?

Re: waste ink tank...

I once modified a Canon iP4000 printer which took some doing and a number tube fittings but since then I've not bothered for a couple of reasons.
1. The modification was a pain to complete
2. I've yet to have a Canon require the waste ink pads to be replaced

I figure if the printer does need a waste ink pad replacement I may make the modification then but not before. I didn't document the process either which obviously makes life harder for you but from what I remember you'd be looking at, at least 2, maybe 3 hours of work plus you'd be drilling the case so your warranty would definitely be void.

Re: CIS
I'll be honest I've been trying to get Canon printers to work consistently with my own CIS kits and just decided to give up. That said, Sam Cahir (Rihac.com.au) is probably your best bet with good support.
