Default If Cartridge light comes on will the printer stop communicat

I have an Epson 870 printer and the color cartrige light is on.

I am not sure if there is a problem with the print since I can not do a clean print head cycle at all!

Also I can't do a printer check by holding page and power button at power up.

The red light just stays on.

If I try to print something the computer says it can't comunicate at all with the printer.

It acts like it dosen't even know the printer is hooked up.

I even tried a brand new cable and even hooked it to another computer but I get the same..."no comminications"!

My question is this......

If a cartridge needs to be replaced and the red light comes on will the printer act like this, in that it will not communicate with the computer at all?????

if the cartridge light is on steady it will not print. its saying you do not have enough to print anothr job(to save paper and time wasting). if you try to force it to print it won't work. you may cause a com error.

when you look at the cartridge there is a little chip on there. it will not allow you to print if it sees the cartiridge empty. don't bother trying to remove the chip it's integral to the system.

just change it the cartridge and then reboot if you have the com error still.

the printer came with a book on the operation of the unit it should have explained most of that.
