I'm getting a scanner error message as well as the printer is continually clicking.
Any help in solving this would be much appreciated.

If you're going to get help you need to be more specific about the problem..

ie:
- provide a detailed description of the error message
- location, type, (sounds like?) of clicking
- detail what you're trying to do when the error message appears..

- etc...

I have the one generation back MP730. But when I watch a scan happen,
you can see the scanner lamp being tracked smoothly from one end of the
the page to the other end. My guess is that the ckicking you hear is the failure of the lamp to smoothly track.--with something jamming the tracking--likely a stripped gear--examine the lamp--is it perpendicular with the track---or notisably off 90 degrees--but all scanners basically work that way.

I assume you get a specific error code---if its not in the manual---call Canon tech support if its under warranty---if not under warranty they still have free e-mail support.
