Bought 100 sheets of A4 matt or silk? photo paper about a year ago, before I got a new Canon ip4200.

After seeing the good results the printer could produce, I ordered some more "top quality " glossy photo paper from Ebay. My first tests suggest my older matt paper produces more vibrant / appealing photos than my new glossy paper, which is the opposite from what I had been expecting?

I've tried various settings in the printer paper setup, but the matt paper always looks better... any thoughts? :?

Yes, don't buy "top quality"paper from Ebay!, seriously, if you want good results buy good paper, Epson, Canon, Ilford etc etc make great papers, I find the Epson Premium Glossy to be an excellent match to my Canon ip4000 & ip8500, for silk I use Ilford Gallerie.

If you're in the UK Iwould also try these people, http://www.inkjet-cartridges.co.uk/paper.htm

Their Silk 260gsm is very good and quite cheap, all orders come with free UPS shipping!, http://websites.uk-plc.net/UK_Inkjet...hoto_Paper.htm

They also do a decent 128gsm hi-res plain paper, 1000 sheets for £19.99 http://websites.uk-plc.net/UK_Inkjet...ing_Offers.htm

Thanks for the links. Like you said, you often get what you pay for.

Just wasn't sure if glossy should look duller than a matt print. I'll give your recommendations a try next time.

Cheers

I have been using Kodak semi gloss which gives good results and if I want them stiffer and glossy I laminate. Don't profess to being an expert, just enjoy being able to produce great photo's
