Can you use Kodak paper on a Canon printer without degrading the quality and doing harm to the printer?

The only downside to using Kodak paper I've found is the quality, my IP865, IP4000 and IP8500 all give poor results with the Kodak paper I've tried here in the UK, the Epson Premium Glossy seems to the best match for them, even better than Canons own paper (IMHO) and as I can usually get it on Buy One Get One Free it works out a lot cheaper as well! :-)
