Default Kodak Z1012 or Sony DSC-H20

Hello to all,

I read a lot about Kodak Z1012 IS and Sony DSC-H20.

I would be using the camera for shooting pics at parties, family functions, landscape and taking HD videos.

Can someone help me choose?

Big Thanks

I and quite a few other members in this forum like the Z1012. I use mine interchangeably with its predecessor the Z712, which I prefer slightly. In its favour are...

...considerably lower price, at least in the UK;
...a wider and longer zoom (33-396mm equiv vs 38-380);
...use of standard SD memory cards (instead of Sony non-standard Memory Sticks and cards, (means you'll be stuck with them if you ever change your camera);
...use of standard removable batteries: rechargeable CR-V3 Li-ion, throwaway Li CR-V3, 2xAA throwaway Li, as well as its own proprietary KLIC-8000.

By the standard of this type of camera the Kodak is quite small and light, but I think the Sony is smaller and lighter.

Funny that there doesn't seem to be much discussion of that Sony in the Sony Forum here. I'm not sure whether that's good or bad news!

Well perhaps I can shed some light on the subject. I shoot with both the Kodak Z-1012 and the Sony H-20 cameras. IMHO the Kodak Z-1012 is a better low light level performer than the H-20. For general/family subjects the two cameras are about equal. If it were me i would go with the Kodak Z-1012 camera, it is simpler and more reliable.
