Default DX 6490 versus Canon G5

Would anyone care to comment on the Dx 6490 versus the Canon G5 as a first digital camera? I know, you are going to ask me: what are you going to use it for? Well, I am going to use it for general, all around photography, nothing special, people at parties, kids playing soccer, aircraft pictures, and such, indoors and out. I have been using a Canon A1 SLR for over 20 years with mostly a 70-210 lens. That is the extent of my experience. (I got many excellent photos of my kids in sports with it!)
