This happened while i was clicking.

After 10-15 pictures taken, the camera just went blank with the lens still extended.

took the batteries out and put them in. clicked the power button. The lens went in and came out half way.

The LCD shows set date/time when switched on for 2 seconds. Then, goes blank.

The batteries are perfectly fine.

Any clue on whats happening?

I don't have one of these cameras, but from the symptoms, it sounds as if there is a component in the power supply which is overheating and shutting down. If your batteries are known to be good, try an external power supply, and if the problem continues, your camera needs to be serviced. Sometimes, one or more cells in a set of batteries will develop a problem and read OK until it is under load. You will have to experiment to determine if it is the battery or the camera, which is why I recommend an external supply.
