Default new member questions

I am new to the group and have a few questions.

I would like to buy a 7i, any recomendations as to where and how much?

Are some cf cards faster than others? If so which ones are faster?

Is the microdrive faster than the fastest cf card?

Prices vary wether you shop in a local store or over the internet...

Yes, some CF card are faster than others, the microdrive is the fastest per ATA specs (for both read and write) which all CF cards adhere to. As with any camera if you're just shooting single shots in jpeg, none of the speed matter since the camera buffer the shots and parse it out to the slower cards. When you're shooting in raw/tiff, high frame rate, or in the movie mode this buffer is immediately full, then and only then will you see the difference since it'll take a while for the internal camera buffer to empty out to the memory cards (ie shorter wait with faster cards).

But then at this point, it does matter since in most consumer camera, the camera design is the bottleneck and not CF cards (or microdrive!); However a D7i and a microdrive is a powerful combination because of the cost/Mb and the D7i's cheap NiMh battery source, but you have to realize that with the microdrive regardless of how reliable it is, it will always play 2nd fiddle to a solid state device... ie you're trading off cost/convenience for long term reliability!
