The UHS function on my 7Hi originally worked great. However lately when I tried to use it nothing would happen when I pressed the shutter button. A look into the manual revealed that the UHS wouldn't work if the batteries were weak. I then tried using freshly charged batteries and, lo and behold, the function worked. However, it seemed different than before. Now the function is silent, whereas before it made shutter-action noises like what I hear from the High Speed function. Also, while holding down the shutter button, the LCD display remains black until I release the shutter button. I seem to recall the LCD not blanking out during the UHS function.

What should I expect from the UHS function? Is my memory faulty, or is my UHS malfunctioning?

as far as my memory goes, what yoy see is what described in the manual. It is normal. you confused the high speed advance with the UHS mode.

BTW, the USH is fun to use.
