I've just bought a Scandsk Ultra II which I understand is rated at 66x and I get write times of around 17 sec

The Sandisk Ultra II is rated at 66x, my Lexar 80x and 40x return similar speeds.
I'd love to know how is Terry getting those faster times?
Yes, they do seem pretty fast compared to times that other users have recorded. I don't know if the age of the camera could have any bearing on this. But, I believe, if your battery is fairly discharged, that could slow times down.

Ultimately, the A2 will be just as happy with something in the region of 24x to 40x, as you have found with your 20x (?) Fuji.It won't or can't do anything more with faster cards. I think there has to be something in what E.T had to say about the controller chip in various cards.
