I love my new 5D.

But I also like to play with Infrared (IR) photography and the 5D is rubbish at it! It obviously has a very strong IR-cut filter in front of the CCD so not only it seriously reduces exposure by about -13EV, but I also have to further compensate with anther -2EV just to get a moderate picture. We're talking 4 second exposures ibn sunshine!

I did find out though that my S414 is MUCH better at it! It's still slow (about -6EV) but it focuses and measures correctly, so you can get fairly decent pictures, expecially in B&W mode. Low in contrast but nothing that Photoshop can't cure.

Has anyone tried IR with the 5D or 7D?

Has anyone tried modifying the S414 to remove the IR-cut filter?

I'd love to hear of more people with experience in IR!

I can't comment on the 5D or the S414 but I did just get dimage 7 expressly for its reputed ir sensitivity. It is indeed quite ir sensitve and capable of getting handheld shots in the 1/4-1/20s range at iso100. Here are a couple of early efforts.
