My camera's LCD showed 'ERR' on the Data Panel after attempting a shot in light mist in Honolulu. After that, the camera went blank. I immediately placed it under my shirt and took it inside. That was three weeks ago, and after several attempts to dry it with a blow dryer; placing it in a dry, warm room fro two days; and finally placing it in an empty container inside of a larger, enclosed container, surrounded bysilica gel to dry it, it still does not show any life whatsoever.
I contacted Sony and was told that I could ship the camera to their repair facility after prepaying $211. This $211 would be used inspect the camera and ship it back to me, but any repair work (materials andlabor) would be an additional charge. I don't think paying a possible $400 would be a wise investmentin a two year old camera.
Are therealternativeplaces I couldcontact that would not charge an arm and a leg to inspect the camera so that Icould determine if it is worth fixing? I live in the San Francisco Bay Area.
