Hi All,

Noone wante to make comment so decided to see what you all thought!

Was out playingyesterday evening with my 30D as I have only used it for sports shots so far.

I used flash at 1/8th power and exposed for 15seconds at f7.1. This was to allow the boat to remain sharp (as there was quite a bit of movement) and still get the dof needed. I had to then bring the levels up quite a bit to get the definition I wanted.

What could I do to improve it?

Thanks,

Mark - http://www.photographysmith.co.uk

You've achieved a neat image, actually.Yet, due to the flashlight, the white boat at the front steals a lot from the rest of the image, IMO. I wish it were enlightened by the available light from the cityscape to be a component of it.

I agree with Bahadir, I think you've done a good job there, but the boat is a little dominant for me too. Not sure what you can do about it though...

Welcome back BTW, haven't seen you around here for a while!

John.

Thanks guys, I will never learn unless people tell me what is wrong and after thinking about it I agree.

I have not posted much John although my website is now fully working with online purchasing which is good (and I have even taken some orders - even better!!!). I have just made the change from Konica Minolta 5D to Canon 30D so I have loads of bits to stick on eBay and get some of the stupid amount I spent getting everything new.

I am going to try some more landscape type stuff as unlike you it is not my strong point so need to learn...... this will mean I will probably sticking some more work up here for people to comment on.

What do you think of this edit? It is the same shot but I selected the boat and reduced the levels to 'blend' it in more with the rest of the image.... is it better?

Mark

Better I think. You might even try blending more boosting the background slightly

great idea for a shot, i quite like the original, and like the way u overcame the movement of the boat, id have also tried to get a shot where the boat wasnt in view, if at all possible
