Bought a Canon 5D on Sat to add to my 30D, I also got the Canon 24-105mm f4 L USM IS lens with it, battery grip and a 430EX flash to go with the 580EX I already had..... it was a fun weekend of getting new kit

It's not a bad flash, but after getting used to the blistering speed of the 580EX it was a little slow to recycle, but for me it is mainly going to be there as a backup or 2nd flash when shooting weddings so will probably use it on the 30D and keep the 580 on the 5D. However it is nice to use the 30D at 5fps and if settings are right get the flash to fire off 3 or 4 shots with flash exposed correctly. I'm not decided yet, but will play around some more and see what I want to do.

So do you recommend the 430EX, and i was also gonna buy the 24-105 lens but after reading the review in photozone changed my mind and got the Sigma 17-70 which i like, what's your take on the 24-105

So far so good with the 24-105, I'm really liking the results, however I've only used it on the 5D and not the 30D yet so not sure how much is camera and how much is lens. I also have the Sigma 17-70mmwith the 30D as I liked it so much my Konica Minolta 5D before I switched to Canon. I will let you know if I notice anything majorly differentbut with a APS-C camera I think you made the right choice.

As for the 430EX there is nothing wrong with it as far as I can see, far better than the on-board flash of the 30D (as one would expect). The only thing was I had got used to the performance of the 580EX which is a lot higher (as the price suggests) so I had been spoilt really.
