went away for the weekend camping in the lake district and got a few decent shots, this one i like even though its hard to make out all the detail in a small image......but the clouds where amazing !!

the pass is a single track road that is very steep and very twisty, but not quite as bad as the next pass - hardknot pass

Wonderful pictures as ever, Gary. Were you on your mountain bike or in the car at this stage? Talking of hard men, (if the former, the bike)...

Perhaps it's worth mentioning to the folk here that the Romans built a fort, Mediobogdum, just the other side of Hardknott Pass, 393m, in a similar location to the photographer here, just a little lower on the 250m contour, fully exposed to the westerly gales off the Irish Sea, and not far from England's highest mountains. Hard men indeed! Not quite Tuscany.

Gary,

Second the others eagerly waiting for pictures of/from the Hardknot Pass.

Cumbria - sounds roman :-)

This "event" came to my mind:
How Alexander the Great overcame the Gordian
Knot

"Julius Caesar still crosses the Rubicon" (Lars Gustafsson)

the fort just after the summit of the hardknot pass

this is just one side of it......there are remains of buildings in the middle, 500 romans lived there and it was built in the year 200 ad......an amazing piece of work to get all the stone up onto the hill to guard on of the main passes, it was built in the reign of Hadrian who also built the wall across the english-scotish border

This is a one of a kind picture. Breathtaking, yes. One spectacular, "slingering" (my contribution to current English language) diagonal. Come on with more pictures, Gary

Far away for the Roman Empire. It fell. Congratulations. What the ... is today┬┤s empire doing in Farawayistan

Well, if you have the time, post some more pictures
