Default A very pale winter-scene:

# 1 - The color that was not there....

# 2 - The B & W from the first shot...

Thank you for watching. If you have an opinion on either of the shots, feel free to express whatever you want!

I think the color contrast went too far in pic1 The red in the trees looks unnatural. The b&W looks very good, by far my favorite of the two.

Walter,

Never seen such magnificent texture to pine trees with snow. Also like the restrained colours. Great photos both of them. Thanks, Walter

I'm not sure about the colored one, but the b&w is amazing!

Well, the original had no color at all - remember its winter, there was this fog - no sunlight. To get colors one needs sunlight. What would look unnatural to some, might look o.k. to others. There are no rules to this game. This was not supposed to be a shot for realism or journalism as to picture the reality.

Obviously, I have boosted the color saturation to some 35% just to get some "live" into an otherwise plain and boring shot. Some may seem this is a lot of change to a picture - I quite like the way it turned out. At least now it's something to look (and hate...?) at! ;-)

We all percive and like or hate different things in photography (like HDR or not...) and as I said - There are no rules other than to satisfy the photographer, really.

For reality see below (middle exposure of a 5-exposure HDR):

That was because there was this extremely cold night (minus 20 C) and this rather humid air (hence the fog) coming in from the sea in the morning, freezing instantly on the pine-needles. Giving the trees this exciting (for me, anyway) look of frostcovered hedge-hogs!

It was agony to stand there in the cold, because of the high humidity, but I wanted to picture this strange meteorological phenomena.

Thank you for your kind comment, Torgny!

Oh, it's just that I didn't quite see the story in the picture and thought it was a picture that was processed in pure frustration, since this winter seems to have really dug in.

Your previous answers to this picture tells me otherwise.
