Default The Wonder of Kananaskis Country

Feeling the need to take a small drive west of Calgary, Kananaskis Country is incredibly beautiful and is only an hour away. I recalled seeing a road side sign for Lorrette Ponds on my last trip there so I took a chance to see what was there.

The clouds were extremely moody the whole trip with snow in the forecast but I ended up missing the snow there and drove into it going back to Calgary.

All these shots were taken with a 4 stop ND filter to give depth and drama to the clouds and shadows and to also provide a slightly slower shutter in order to help smooth out the water surface.

Slight hdr was applied as well as used the dodge and burn tool to enhance the highlight and shadow areas further.

Very nice, spy. I especially like the B&W shot with the reflections and brooding sky.

these are really nice spy. they are balanced and pleasing images, though the sky seems a bit overdone in the first compared to the rest of the scene. but i am on a laptop til they fix my internet, so take that with a grain of salt.

but, shot #2 is just gorgeous. i really love the composition, i like the framing form the brances, weeds and darker cloud, and the anchor point of the shot from the 4 fir trees and their reflections. and the contrast in this black and white image. really like that one alot.

Astounding shots again Kevin... but #2 is just breathtaking (and all the other superlatives you can imagine)!!! Composition, contrast, the reflections... all the things Dustin already managed are perfect - I would hang that one on the wall immediately

You will be pleased to know you are back to posting photos I like (hmmm, not sure you lost any sleep over me not being so keen on the last one anyway LOL).

The first is my favorite, great scene. One thing that I love about your photography is you go looking for a shot, you consider it before you leave rather than just hoping you might find something close by. Your dedication pays off and hopefully will continue to inspire others to be more adventurous.
