Sorry Torgny, yes it's made up, but only by joining 'wrinkly' and 'water' together. I know, one doesn't usually use the term 'wrinkly' to describe water but when you are a parent you are exposed to many delightful concepts. And when you take a step back to look, these little descriptions are usually quite apt.

Some define "intelligence" as the ability to "translate" and make comparizons between unexpected entities. Children have that ability, as described by David Hume and Noam Chomsky, to use language creatively; "the infinite use of finite means"

Putting together, ok. What about "flutterby"?

That's a common one, not of my making. I dimly recall a tongue twister from my schooldays which included the phrase 'butterfles flutter by' so that by the time you said it ten times quickly 'butterflies' became 'flutterbies' ... and it has stuck in generations of children (and those of us who are not so grown up!) Can't help with a more exact etymology I'm afraid. It's a quirky saying that has become commonplace.

PS: Hey, I've just noticed your 'byfluttering' response to my 'Flutterby' shots. Thank you for the comment — and I like that ... 'byfluttering' ... could start a new word game!

Bernice,

English is not exactly my native language (as you of course have understood), something that gives me the freedom to do funny things with words

What about a "flubbering tie" as a Father's Day present? Would it come in use or would it be hidden deep down in a dusty corner of the walk in closet, like all the other ugly ties?
