Default Lucky Strike - Canola Lightning

Thunderstorms for my area today....again. Took my camera to work and lucky for me, when I finished for the day, the storm clouds were building fast. These canola fields were just 10 minutes from where I was so I raced out to see what was developing. The only difficult part about shooting lightning in the day time is that you can't get a long shutter for multiple strikes.

I got my focus, locked the shutter with the remote and let er rip. I got this strike within the first 20 shots!

5dMII, 24 - 70, ISO 50, f22, 4 stop ND filter

Kevin, these are both powerful images, I couldn't resist combining them. Turned out pretty nice. You have some pretty countryside up there!

Kevin, it's tempting, but right now we're having temps in the high 90's(F), and the gulf of mexico is a little oily right now. Our best time is between February and June, then it gets HOT! until September. Have your temps been unusually high this year? I may have to start believing in global warming...

I think Calgary has been cool and wet this summer. We should be having our dry season all ready but every other day we've been getting thunderstorms rolling through. Lots of hail damage and high winds blowing over trees. The weather's all screwed up.

I feel terrible about the oil mess for everyone in that area. How are people dealing?

Actually, the prognosis is great. BP is laying off 16,000 cleanup people, and the oil is dissipating rapidly. The test will be in the monitoring of the water, as to the parts per million of the toxins that are out there. The media has hurt us more than the oil platform explosion. Go figure...

Pensacola has always relied on tourism, and our sugar white sand has always been a big attraction. This summer, since April 20, this town has been dead. Labor day weekend, the first weekend in September marks the end of the tourist season, so this year is in the tank. Maybe next year. At least there are no lines at the restaurants-(dark humor).
