i dunno, aside from the smog, it looks kinda pleasant! i expect the air quality there would choke me, but i wouldn't mind some of that blue sky and sunshine!

Hello Frogfish,

It is certainly a dramatic varience of building techniques. Like SQUIRL said, how does one live there without developing lung disease?

Thanks guys.

Smog (if it is smog, don't forget Shanghai is a coastal city and gets a lot of sea mists and low level clouds with no mountains anywhere in the area) - well Shanghai especially & China in general have come a long way. All heavy industry is banned within I think it's 15 kms of the city centre and China's budget to promote green is actually x10 that of the USA for 2011. What smog there is in the centre is from the horrendous amount of cars, buses and trucks (not allowed inside the Inner ringroad unless actively involved in construction and then only between 22.00 and 06.00).

However that said it's a 3rd world country going through it's 'Industrial Revolution' which is rarely given any thought or consideration in the West - it's easy to forget though considering their remarkable progress, over the last 10 yeas especially. Look at that shot again - none of that existed 15 years ago when Lujiazui was farmland and low rise industrial production (and I first moved here) - they have built more towers in Shanghai than the whole of Manhattan - and in just 10 years. It really is a fascinating city and I'd suggest almost anyone would have a great time visiting here.
