Default Sunset on Hangzhou West Lake

After taking my daughter to a casting in Hangzhou we took the opportunity to spend some time around the lake.

Only one of these shots has had any PP except noise reduction with Topaz Denoise.

These were the first shots with my new Tamron 17-50 f2.8. I think I like this lense

I would appreciate it if you could tell me your preferred 1,2,3 from these 6 .. thanks !

Honestly, I have difficulty picking...

I like them all for different reasons... If I have to pick I'd say I like the night shot
but I couldn't give any specific reason, I just do...

You've done a wonderful job on all of them, IMHO...

I vote 2,3,6,1,4,5...... Very nice shots! All! I love the composition of 2 and 3!! Really great lens if you ask me, or at least you are using it to it's full potential ! Thanks for posting these, very soothing and comforting photography. Frank

Thank you Mark - very kind comments ! All I can say is that sometimes we get so carried away trying to get THE shot that we forget to marvel at the scene before us - that didn't happen here

Wizzard - thank you so much for your comments - I'm glad you enjoyed the series !

Frank - thank you for those kind words. Yes I think I'm in love already - I bought the Tamron because they didn't have the Sigma 17-50 f2.8 HSM in stock yet. However the AF is so fast (even in low light) and the shots ultra sharp & colours great (most of those shots above have almost zero colour enhancement - I found even Curves or Levels didn't improve the colour to my taste) that I may not change this later for the new Sigma.

There are some things to look out for though if anyone is thinking of buying this lense so you won't be disappointed (I checked 4 copies in the shop before buying this one).

Thought some of you might be interested so here I'm posting the results of the voting on these shots. It was a very revealing exercise because I really had no idea how people would vote and in the end I was surprised a little.

Voting was across 3 forums, 3 points for a 1st, 2 for 2nd and 1 for a 3rd :

#1 = 30
#2 = 34
#3 = 61
#4 = 12
#5 = 14
#6 = 10

My own preference ?

1. #1
2. #3
3. #6 & #2

But I keep changing my mind

Thank you all for your comments and your votes !

Excellent experiment Frogfish. Very scientific and revealing. I must use this sometime in the future if you don't mind me copying your polling format. It is by the way hard to make up one's mind and keep it there with such stunning subject matter. Cheers!!! Frank

PS I would like to ask you if you mind if I use your pic #2 for my desk top background for a while?

Thank you hkmp - as you say it's very difficult to come to any conclusions when they are your own shots, every time I look I see a fault - so easy to enjoy other people's !

Please be my guest, it would be an honour to have one of my shots as someone's computer background !
