Number /\/\/\ for me Torgny. It can stand alone - the lone bird so small, so vulnerably high against the sky and the impending day's close. There's a sense of watching, waiting and immense stillness.

Torgny, yes, we have several species of shrike. The one I am familiar with is the Black Face Cuckoo-shrike [Coracina novaehollandiae]

Thanks for the link. Forgot to mention that there was complete stillness - no wind at all. Makes the cold less. Striking a match was no match at all
