Default 1st attempt of...ummm..."borrowing" from SPY :)

1st of all, I LOVE Kevins work and think he's inspiring. I shot this today. It is by NO MEANS in his league and there IS room for improvement. But it was my first attempt to really try to branch out from my daughter and dogs As I said, lots of room for improvement for this rank amateur.

As I'm restricted to shooting during what seems to be really overcast days and high noon This late morning, the day surprisingly was really pretty with peeks of sun which caught a fresh light snowfall.

This picture is a before and after, if it loads correctly. The adjustments were done with LR3. The 'after' shot is what was occurring when the sun was peaking out but wouldn't you know it when I clicked the shutter it ducted back behind the clouds.

Critiques welcome as I'm just starting to learn and focus on PP editing.

I love what you are doing. Do not apologize for your skills. even the professionals do terrible photos...
I love the one on the right, just me. The one on the left is too, er, normal a day to me....tired of winter me thinks. Then again am kind of like the one on the right.
Only critique? Dress warmly, stay dry, and a warm toddy when you get inside.

you are trying new things, and it expands you creative photo. It is always good to do that. I like the darker one also.

Your #2 is a mystery filled and enthralling edit of # 1.
Watching # 2 gives food for your imagination, whereas #1 is a "ready served" fast-food meal, so to speak...

I like what you are doing her.

Best regards,
Walter

I'm thrilled that you would set your own 'bar' higher to invoke mood and mystery into your everyday normal snap shot by discovering your pp tools. Once you start down this road of mood 'discovery', your photography will never look or feel the same again.

This type of photography taps into the 'soul' as it causes you to look deeper into your scene through the lens. It becomes a way of expression of whats inside as you look outward. You will notice shadows and highlights at deeper tonal levels than you did before.

Great job on the edit!

Kevin

Thanks everyone for the vote of confidence! I just started focusing on editing using Lightroom 3 and PSE8. I still don't quite understand all that both programs do with respect to all the functions, but I'm having a blast trying to figure it all out.

I sincerely appreciate the feedback as it helps me immensely.

Cheers!
