Default Virginia Beach

I went out early in the morning before sunrise to take pictures of the sun.

Later in the day I went out again with my son hopefully for a swim. But the day was cold and windy and the water dangerous. There were hardly anyone on the water but the lifeguards were busy blowing their whistles to keep people from straying too far.

#1) This was actually my first time to watch the sun rising out of the water. It was surprising because I didn't expect the sun to be so clearly visible.

#2) Hotels along the boardwalk. These will set you back upwards of $250 a night. We stayed at the next row of hotels with a "partial" view of the sea meaning the hotels you see here are blocking our view.

#3) Man surfs from under the pier.

#4) Boardwalk.

#5) Not sure what these coin-operated binoculars are good for other than checking people out.

Thank you for looking. C&C welcome.

#6) Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water...

Thanks so much for the great pictures of Virginia Beach. Really has changed since I lived there.

You're welcome, sds. Thank you, sds, Billy.

sds, I found the locals very friendly. Our hotel's front desk person (we were in an inexpensive one), the waiters and waitresses in the restaurants we went to, and the people running the arcades at the fair hawking me to try my skills and maybe win a prize. I'm sure you'll agree that's something that hasn't changed.

#8) A pizza place on Atlantic Avenue.

#9) Painted hermit crabs for sale.

WOW, Absolutely fab series, your compositions are well cool - love em all, but the pier/surfer shot stands out for me.

Thank you, DyaneG. The surfer was standing there for a while waiting for the strip of beach in front of him to be clear of children. When it finally did was when I also finally had my camera ready on my tripod so I took the shot.

#10) My son wanted to show me his cellphone camera's HDR feature so I asked if he wanted me to look happy or sad. He said, "It doesn't matter," which to me meant both. Being the doting father that I am, I tried to give my son both.

As you can see, I think I did a pretty OK job. If you covered half my face I'm happy. If you covered the other half, I'm sad. But I think it will serve you better if you covered both.

Just kidding around...
