Default Haleakala: A dormant volcanic crater on Maui, Hawaii

If you ever get to Maui, Hawaii one of the most spectacular scenes is that of the view of Haleakala Crater. The crater is now dormant having last erupted in the 17th century. The drive up from sea level takes about two hours along a winding road with many switchbacks.

The lookout is at the 10,000 ft. level and it does get a tad chilly especially in the early morning if you decide to take in the sunrise. Be aware it tends to be clouded in and you have to be lucky.

Nice, like the colors and the lines in the ground.

Stunning photo. I'm afraid my travels to Hawaii will be via photos only.

CalicaJun, simple, WCKser, and Pitter,
Thank you all for your comments. You can actually hike that trail in the middle. I have not done it but I understand it is breathtaking.
