do you think a simple black stroke would be best?

it depends, i could go for "creativity"

or "poster-tivity" (haha making up words again )

if i were to make it look like a poster, i'd use a simple black stroke around the picture, with a good amount of white space around the picture with the text shown above...

but creatively...i'd probably change the font...i'm not sure about the edges though

thanks for your comments!

Yes, I am talking about the edges where the pic meets the white space.

IMO, it just looks too PS'd. Maybe something a little more clean around those edges would suffice?

With all the talk of the border, Vito, have you tried without the torn edged and a black expanded canvas and white/grey text. Thinking that might not dominate so much and better match the photo. Never hurts to play.:-)

OK I tried it, quick and dirty. just quickly selected and blackened the outer part, didn't get the torn parts, but you get the idea. I then typed the names, you could pick a dif. font. I have deleted from my hd. Hope you don't mind the mod.

I see pavaros beat me to it, should have reloaded.

i like the image and the torn edges effect but i think i agree with gocubs about the white border,it is a bit contrasty.
hope you dont mind, here is a suggestion (for those who use the black background in the forum: there is a black border around the torn edges);

That is pretty funny with the both of you posting at the same time with the same idea.

I think that is a pretty neat looking pic with the black background. Might be a little too dark for a poster though. From what I can understand, I think Vito really likes the look of those posters you see in the National Park stores and is attempting to get his images like those, but with his own flare.

I could be wrong though.

ryan, you are correct..

i liked the look of the posters i saw in a gift shop in the smokies, and thought i'd try that, because it was the "professional" way...

which, it is....but isn't necessarily MY way...which could be better...maybe

thanks for helping me understand that

i appreciate your help!

hm...maybe i should make the poster, but with the black, so that you guys could see it without the white speckles in there..

thanks for your comments everyone!

No prob Vito.

I know you have an artistic eye for photography and really strive to get "that look" with some of your photos. Aint nothing wrong with that. Heck, I do the same thing.

Sometimes you just need to sit back and think how you can take that picture, and make it look "professional" (whatever that means :?) but Vitoize it.

Ha, made up my own word. Come on everybody, let's Vitoize it...

And the person who made the poster you saw probably is thinking that they need to make it look more professional too

My point to that is what is the "professional" way? If someone likes the look of it they will think it looks professional regardless of what the designer thinks of it.
